We all know honesty is the best policy. We also know there shouldn't be secret between couples. But yet, we know that in reality, no couples knows everything about the other person.
In some situations, its called a white lie. Where the truth is too painful or harsh to be known by the other, thus a better approach is to tell a lie. Though a personal experience says, if ur conscience will bother u, dun do it. There will always be a guilty feeling in u, so rather let it happen and aim for remedy. Else, u r good to go with this.
But we all know sometimes this can be abuse. Like cheating. U know it and ur friends beg u not to tell, cause its a one off. And he swears it will never happen again. Well, i wud say, "Bullshit!"
Another situation when a couple doesnt bout the other is when we dont know how we should tell the other person what we think or feel. A simple example, when we crave for more attention. Or we feel like we r being ignore. The solution should be as simple as, "hey, u hav been ignoring me a lot lately, i know u r busy but if u really care how hard is it to reply a msg?' Yet, knowing how fragile our relationship can be at times and bearing the word 'mature' on us. We just swallow that unpleasant feeling most of the time. A luckier couple prob wud hav a good frind to be the middle person and pass the msg on. Else it might end up as someone willing to give him more attention and we loose him for good. Things u never knew, things that are too late to know.

If messenger / middleman is required between a couple, I doubt how far can this couple goes...couple shall be opened to each other. Of course, I do agree that, if the thing hurts or may hurt, it's best not to do it or tell a white lie. Sometime it's best to be ignorance to be happier. Knowing too much may not be good, esp in this fragile-lustiness-non committal plu relationship.

Oo... and i agree knowing too much may not be good... cause not knowing at all is sometimes the luckiest thing, the miserable one is the one who has to keep the secret and feel guilty. Which is why i say if ur conscience dun bother u, u r good to go with the lying method..

ReplyDeleteI prefer to be honest with him. But i will only tell him things he needs to know. If he doesn't then there's no point telling la.. If he requests to know then i will tell. But other than that, i think i'd like to keep some touch of mysteriousness for myself.. It depends on the person and the couple la ultimately.. Sometimes hiding things may just be a reflex from your other half being over-demanding or way too clingy or something..
ReplyDeletewe tell everything to each other.. sometimes its difficult to do so but we will do it.. we will quarrel then we will make up.. usually it wont take more than one day for us to solve everything.. its better knowing it earlier than later.. but sometimes things like flinging and stuffs.. i mean.. when we started dating that time.. it was a one time thing and i only told him about it after a couple of months.. i was hoping that it would die down and stable down before tell him and yea.. it took him a whole day to understand and yea.. i love my bubu..

Of course JJ (i.e. me) wins lah :P Lol so thick-skinned hor? It's best to be honest as often as possible. I totally agree about the difficulty of telling your partner if you feel ignored because if you tell, you won't know whether his subsequent attention on you is sincere or not, right?

ReplyDeleteLies, truth or untold all depends on situation and has their own values in certain situation. Just look at the situation and you will know which of these decision is the the best.
However, if it involves your partner, the truth is best told as soon as possible, because the main pillar of any relationship will be "trust" and "sharing".
Thompson, actually i do agree timing is important, but honesty is still best policy..

CX, it really depends how well u can seal the thing to urself.. for me... i cant, i rather let it out and once and for all get it sorted.. especially if something is morally wrong, i wud all the more feel uneasy to cover it. It goes against my beliefs and values.
